Contribution to Hanaholmen Heritage
Hanaholmen Heritage is a new Nordic–Baltic preparedness programme that strengthens cooperation on protecting cultural heritage before, during, and after crises. Initiated by the Nordic Council of Ministers and coordinated by Hanaholmen, the programme brings together professionals from museums, archives, heritage authorities, emergency management, defence, and international organisations.
Drawing on lessons from Ukraine and the growing recognition of hybrid threats, it promotes cultural heritage as an integral part of societal resilience and total defence. Through leadership training, practical exchanges, and regional networking, Hanaholmen Heritage helps build the capacity needed to safeguard cultural heritage in an increasingly uncertain security environment. The programme reflects a broader shift in the Nordic–Baltic region towards viewing cultural heritage not only as a legacy to preserve, but also as a strategic resource for identity, democratic resilience, and societal preparedness.
A training program and a Nordic-Baltic Conference were held during May 2026 at Hanaholmen, Finland.
