MARIE E. CHRISTENSEN, PhD Candidate

Marie E. Christensen’s PhD project focuses on how the securitization of cultural heritage has drawn museums into security related work areas normally falling under defense and security, and how this development creates new roles and challenges for museums. The project examines among other things the implication of this ‘turn to security’ for museums’ social, political and institutional identity and its implications to museums' legitimacy and the continued utilization of resources and opportunities.

Marie E. Christensen PhD project is set up as a collaboration between the University of Copenhagen, the National Museum of Denmark, and CHAC, and is funded by the Ny Carlsberg Foundation.

Marie E. Christensen’s previous research focused on looting of archeological sites in countries neighboring to armed conflict, with fieldwork in Jordan.

Marie E. Christensen holds a Master of Arts in Archeology form the University of Copenhagen (2013) and a Master of Science in Conservation and Retoration from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts Schools of Architecture, Design and Conservation (2018).
